Slappa Pro Spyder Velocity
If you’re looking to trade in that tattered, old laptop case for some real quality protection, Slappa’s Velocity Pro Spyder is among one of the best on the market. Featuring a thick rubber exoskeleton (with rainproof scuba-prene) and four main compartments to store all your goods, Slappa’s latest backpack is designed to absorb even the worse bang-ups at a fraction of the price. Weighing just over three pounds, the Pro Spyder is not only relatively lightweight (especially for all of the lined padding that runs throughout the inside of the bag), but it actually feels like it will protect your investment. Along with the main compartments, there are also plenty of other small pockets that offer even more room; most notably a rear pocket featuring Stay Cool inner lining for storing cold goods like beverages when you’re on the go. And have we mentioned that it’s also pretty darn cheap? Seriously, it’s win-win.
Nyko Intercooler 360
Despite a new business plan that has Microsoft earning a cut from any third-party accessories produced for the Xbox 360, Nyko hasn’t wasted any time in delivering quality products that gamers actually need. Their first creation, dubbed the Intercooler 360, is by far the best 360-compatible accessory on the market, preventing silly overheating issues and enhancing performance by adding three more fans to the system cooling process. It’s an easy installation – just snap it on and you’re ready to go – and is highly recommended add-on for any 360 owner. Our only concern is the extra noise that is created by the additional fans, but it’s a small price to pay for increased longevity.
Nyko Intelligent Remote
The second Nyko-released 360 accessory isn’t nearly as useful, but the Intelligent Remote is still worth checking out if you’re not too keen on the idea of having fourteen remote controls lying around the house. This remote can single-handedly control your Xbox 360, TV and DVD player, and though the idea of a universal remote certainly isn’t unheard of, the Intelligent Remote is the cheapest option for those looking to add a 360 into the mix. The automatic setup makes programming the remote a breeze and the sleek design matches Microsoft’s next-gen console perfectly. Owners of TiVo beware, however, as we found it impossible to synch the Intelligent Remote with our DVR.
Slingbox
For the person who spends more time on the road than at home, the Slingbox is a pretty sweet gadget. Developed by a couple of sports fans trying to keep up with their hometown San Francisco Giants during a pennant race, the Slingbox hooks up to your home television and delivers content from your cable, satellite or digital video recorder onto any computer with a high-speed Internet connection. Unlike devices like Beyond TV from SnapStream Media, which records and arranges programming that can then be viewed on a PC, the Slingbox allows users to tap in to live TV. If you've ever had to follow your hometown team over the Internet while traveling, you know just how useful the Slingbox would be.
Sonos Digital Music System
Now, if you want to get really high-tech, check this bad boy out. In a word: wow. True, this one will put a dent in your wallet, but if you're feeling adventurous, you've got to check out the Sonos Digital Music System. The only one of its kind (as of now, of course), this gadget allows you to play all your digital music from all over your house and control it all with a wireless, handheld remote. Just hook it up to your computer, then put your Sonos ZonePlayer wherever you want it, plug in the speakers and you've got music. Plus, you can play the same song -- or different songs -- from as many ZonePlayers as you want simultaneously. Listen to Franz Ferdinand in the kitchen while your wife sings along with Celine Dion in the bedroom, and it all comes from the same source. How cool is that?
