Usually, the winter meetings bring a whirlwind of change as marquee free agents are brought in to help fill pressing needs, trades are orchestrated so that clubs can capitalize before their window of opportunity closes, and top prospects are given the chance to finally make their imprint on the big league roster. But really, what has changed since last year? The Yankees are the favorites to repeat as champions and the Phillies still look like the cream of the crop in the National League. Meanwhile, the Cardinals re-signed Matt Holliday to protect Albert Pujols and even with the signing of Jason Bay, nobody outside of Queens expects the Mets to finally live up to their expectations. Ho hum.

That said, clubs like the White Sox, Mariners and Braves could surprise in 2010, and for the first time in a long time, fans in Cincinnati and Baltimore have something to be excited about heading into Opening Day. That’s what makes baseball so great. While the Yankees and Phillies have the best overall talent, an upstart club could easily knock them off their thrones. Add that to the potential power shifts in the AL and NL West divisions, and it’s shaping up to be one heck of a summer.

To help get you ready for the 2010 MLB season, we compiled division-by-division rankings with quick-hit overviews on how each club could fare this year. Next to each team, you’ll find a corresponding number written in parenthesis, which indicates where we believe that club falls in a league-wide power ranking. As usual, feel free to give your own predictions and opinions in the comments section on The Scores Report by clicking the title of each divisional preview.
