Scarlett Johansson is one of the more rare female actresses of Young Hollywood, namely because she’s a deadly double act of beauty and talent. And despite her unique look and ravishing voice, it’s her incredible talent and maturity that makes her stand out among the other upcoming bombshells in the industry. Born in New York in 1984, Scarlett had aspirations to be an actor since age three, and was already acting professionally five years later when she enrolled in the Lee Strasberg Theater Institute for Young People. Scarlett’s child star work isn’t very well known, but the stars she performed with are, including Elijah Wood and Sean Connery. She was also nominated for an Independent Spirit Award at the age of thirteen, but it was her appearance in the Robert Redford-directed “The Horse Whisperer” one year later that earned her the credit she deserved.
Scarlett has really pushed her way on to the red carpet since then, thanks mostly to the numerous independent features she has been a part of over the past five years. Her first major indie had the blossoming actress sharing the screen with Thora Birch in 2000 with the graphic-novel-adapted “Ghost World,” before taking the time to indulge in a little camp with the B-movie horror flick “Eight Legged Freaks.” But it was in 2003 when Scarlett experienced her greatest success with dual Golden Globe nominations for her roles in Sofia Coppola’s “Lost in Translation” and “Girl with a Pearl Earring.” There’s no doubt in our minds that Scarlett is already set to become one of the future stars of Hollywood, but here’s hoping she continues to thrive in the independent scene; one more Michael Bay picture may just kill her reputation.

Scarlett Johansson on the Screen
Scarlett's been on a tear lately, thanks mostly to strong performances in independent flicks like "Girl with a Pearl Earring" and "Lost in Translation," as well as more mainstream appearances including "The Perfect Score" and "In Good Company." Earlier work in "Eight Legged Freaks" and "The Man Who Wasn't There" aren't necessarily to die for, but check her out in "Ghost World," and you'll clearly see the natural talent from a young age.
