The infamous Sasha Grey grew up in Sacramento, California in the 1990s, attending four different high schools while working at a steak house and dating the chef – an experience that would shape her perception to sexuality and pave the way for her foray into the adult industry, which she embarked on in the mid-2000s following a move to L.A.
With eclectic interests ranging from existential philosophy to the cinema of Jean-Luc Godard, Sasha made a quick, decisive impact in the San Fernando Valley. Meanwhile, she participated in modeling, appearing in the Smashing Pumpkins artwork for their album Zeitgeist and working in a couple of indie films before being cast as the lead in Steven Soderbergh’s “The Girlfriend Experience,” a timely, low budget film shot in New York, Sasha’s place of residence.
Whether she breaks into mainstream for good remains to be seen (she’s featured in the May 2009 issue of Rolling Stone), but it appears Sasha has no problem straddling both industries – she runs her own adult agency (L.A. Factory Girls) while she works on a documentary regarding her porn experiences. In any case, Sasha Grey epitomizes the American media’s fascination with such a figure, both glamorizing and psychoanalyzing her at the same time. And like most genuine iconoclasts who’ve found themselves under such intense scrutiny, Sasha Grey stares right back.
