So many people around the globe are joining the gig economy to provide on-demand services as independent freelancers. They are offering their time and skills to on-demand companies and their clients via mobile apps. Apparently, one of the most widespread on-demand service jobs today is ridesharing. Of course, you need a decent car to list it for ridesharing on car hiring services like Lyft and Uber.

What if you don’t own such a car but want to act as a rideshare driver? This is where ridesharing applications like HyreCar and Turo come in handy. In this case, someone with a decent car that he or she doesn’t use often is listed on the platforms for renting purposes. So, a different driver is able to rent it out for a short period of time.

Ideally, these two apps are designed to offer the same service but customers have different opinions about them. Here are some of them:

About HyreCar

1. Great Service (Peter, Phoenix)

I didn’t encounter any problems with the service and so I think it’s great. For starters, signing up is free of charge and there is always a HyreCar first-time promo for new customers. I also find the customer team so supportive and quick.

2. Fast Service for Drivers (RideShairing.com blogger)

The sign-up process is really quick and I was able to use my email. As soon as I signed up, I was given a number of ready-to-rent cars. I like the fact that the response from the car owner is within 24 hours.

3. Flexible Cancellation (Christian, USA)

As a driver, I think it’s a great bonus to be allowed to cancel the renting process before or after the approval. It only needs to happen before the pickup.

4. Can Suck Sometimes (Thomas, Chicago)

I find the app as well as the Website to be annoying sometime. The fact that you have to wait for 24 hours to get an approval or a rejection makes it suck.

About Toro

1. Great Platform (Tom, Fairfax)

I like the idea that you don’t have to pay anything to sign up. This is boosted by a supportive customer desk.

2. Fast Refund (Mariah, Baltimore)

I was able to cancel my request 7 days before my trip and I was surprised to get a 100% refund. I really love the fact that it doesn’t take time to get the refund.

3. Affordable Decent Cars (Mark, San Francisco)

The platform is generally great for renting out decent cars like a Mercedes or a BMW at an affordable rate.

4. The Cancellation Fine is Annoying (Michael, USA)

I was charged $50 for doing a late cancellation. They claim that I was supposed to do it three days in advance.

Looking at the customers’ reviews for HyreCar and Turo, it’s clear that the opinions are mixed. So, you can’t really make a decisive conclusion. What’s clear though is that they enjoy more positives than negatives and this is what is important. The decision is yours in the end and it depends on your needs and preferences.
