The schoolgirl outfit has been a staple in glamour modeling for years, and it was a popular outfit with our models from the very begininng. We never asked for it, but so many of our models showed up to photoshoots with at least one of these outfits with all of the bikini and lingerie they would bring.
Britney Spears helped to popularize this look with her iconic music video for “…Baby One More Time,” released in 1998. We started doing Bullz-Eye photoshoots in 2000 so this look was entrenched in the pop culture when we started. In the video, Spears appeared in a schoolgirl outfit that included a white shirt tied up to expose her midriff, a short plaid skirt, knee-high socks, and pigtails. This look was so visually striking that tons of models and everyday women embraced it as a sexy look. Amd of course men loved it!
The sexy schoolgirl look was controversial, and that probably made it even more popular. It became a blueprint for glamour modeling and fashion in the late ’90s and early 2000s. The schoolgirl aesthetic, particularly the mini-skirt and cropped top combination, became popular in both high fashion and popular glamour modeling contexts. This outfit was often recreated for Halloween costumes, fashion editorials, and even in everyday fashion, highlighting its mainstream appeal.
