Radha Mitchell in “The Crazies”

Don’t expect the beautiful Radha Mitchell to dethrone Aussie queen Nicole Kidman anytime soon, but she’s definitely somebody to keep an eye on. And with one major cult horror flick in the books (“Pitch Black”) and two more on the way, she should at least have no trouble gaining a big cult following while she waits for her turn. Born in 1973 in Melbourne, Australia, Radha started acting while in high school. After graduation, the youngster tried her hand both on stage and on the small screen, and before long, she was appearing in Aussie-produced films like “Sleeping Beauties” and “High Art,” both of which were filmed at the Sundance Film Festival.

In 2000, Radha finally made the jump to the mainstream with a role in the Vin Diesel sci-fi/horror film “Pitch Black,” and the American public has been eating her up ever since. In fact, she’s been doing quite well these past few years, including more recent roles alongside heavy hitters like Colin Farrell, Denzel Washington and Johnny Depp. Still, when it comes to our Aussie beauties, there’s no one quite like Naomi Watts, and until Radha can prove she can deliver an Oscar-worthy performance, she’ll be stuck sitting behind these very talents at the award shows.

Radha Mitchell on the Screen

Radha’s been acting for quite awhile now, but she’s just begun to make a dent in Hollywood with roles in films like “Man on Fire” and “Finding Neverland.” Other U.S. appearances include the small indie film “Melinda and Melinda,” the thriller “Phone Booth” and the sci-fi cult hit “Pitch Black.”

Radha Says

On video games:
“I’m not a very good player, to be honest. I’ve tried to play the game and especially to get familiar with the characters better. I mean, it’s really an amazing game, having just a limited sort of knowledge of it that I have.”

On future projects:
“Oh, and I’d love to play like a gun-toting action hero in a movie, but Charlies Angels has been done. Unless they wanna do another one?”
