It’s not very difficult to see that Salma Hayek is one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, and while few would say she’s as talented, the men at Bullz-Eye are proud to back up this Mexican beauty’s unmistakable ability to turn any average movie script into an amazing film experience. Okay, so maybe her curvaceous body and sexually enticing accent help her boom onscreen, but she certainly has the acting chops that stars are made of. Born on September 2, 1966 in Coatzacoalcos, Mexico, her religious parents sent Salma to a Louisiana boarding school to help ensure she would receive an excellent education. After being expelled as a prankster during her adolescence, Salma finished high school in Mexico before she was sent to Houston to live with her aunt. She dabbled in a few years of international relations studies in Mexico City before she decided to drop out and pursue her dream of becoming an actress. Appearing in local theater productions of “Aladdin,” Spanish-speaking television commercials and the popular soap opera, “Un Nuevo Amanecer,” Salma quickly grew to star status in the Latino community, but the young actress wanted more than a few fans from her hometown.

Moving out to Los Angeles in 1991, Salma spent her first two years learning the English language and training under well-renowned drama coach Stella Adler. After losing the lead role to another actress on her first audition, the film’s director was impressed enough to cast her in a smaller role of the same film, 1993’s “Mi Vida Loca.” Finally up on the big screen for everyone to see, up-and-coming director Robert Rodriquez was looking to cast the lead female for the sequel to his Sundance success story, “El Mariachi.” By placing Salma opposite Antonio Banderas in the western-action hit, “Desperado,” not only did Rodriquez suddenly skyrocket to the top of every actor’s director-must list, but he also launched the two relative unknowns on to the red carpet as instant stars. Hayek followed “Desperado” with less impressive roles in films like “Fled” and “Fair Game,” but she continued to make a name for herself with a pleasant cameo appearance in Rodriquez’s “From Dusk Til Dawn” and as “Friends” co-star Matthew Perry’s love interest in the romantic comedy, “Fools Rush In.” Salma has continued to blend her resume with critically acclaimed films (“54” and “Timecode”) and entertaining blockbusters (“Dogma” and “Wild Wild West”), but her most impressive project came in 2002 when she produced and starred in “Frida,” the biopic of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo. Her performance as the famous artist was celebrated with Best Actress nominations from the Academy Awards and Golden Globes, along with winning trophies from a number of smaller awards shows. After a much needed break following a split from long-time beau, Edward Norton, Salma returned to the big screen with a bang to reclaim her spot as Hollywood’s spiciest actress.

In 2021, Salma starred in “The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard,” where our reviewer singled out her porformance: “The biggest source of joy comes from Hayek, who goes so far over the top that it’s like Nicolas Cage as Tony Montana. It’s not a subtle performance, and most of the jokes are basically irate sitcom wife writ large, but the actor sells the hell out of the role by breathing so much energy into every scene. Even her quieter moments are funnier and land better thanks to the barrage of furious anger that she exudes in other sequences.” She also had roles in “The Eternals” and in the excellent “House of Gucci.”

Salma Hayek Isn’t Going to Let Anyone Define Her
Some people see her as a breakthrough Hollywood bombshell. Others see her as the wife of a billionaire fashion mogul. The truth is much more complicated.

    Salma Hayek on the Screen

Salma can accredit a lot of her instant stardom to director Robert Rodriquez for presenting her first big break. After co-starring in Rodriquez’s “Desperado” and making a cameo appearance in “From Dusk Til Dawn,” Salma moved on to bigger and better projects, but she never forget about paying her dues and in 2003, Salma made short appearances in the director’s most recent films, “Once Upon a Time in Mexico” and “Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over.” Since her debut alongside fellow Latin actor Antonio Banderas, Salma has delivered plenty of memorable performances in Academy Award-nominated features like “Traffic” and “Frida” as well as more mainstream projects like “The Faculty” and Kevin Smith’s “Dogma.” While the Latin beauty tends to remain quite picky about her script choices, she’s a pleasure to watch on screen every time.

    Salma Hayek Says

    On dating:
“I keep waiting to meet a man who has more balls than I do.”

On getting a job in Hollywood:
“I don’t believe in the so-called Latino explosion when it comes to movies. Jennifer Lopez doesn’t have an accent…and the fact is that there just aren’t any parts for Latin actresses. Everyone wants a $20 million hit and anything they think may get in the way of that kind of success is considered a liability.”
