With the soaring popularity of Sports Illustrated and its annual swimsuit issue over the ast 50 years, tall fashion models became “supermodels” and international celebrities as they gained notoriety for being in the magazine.
Then Victoria’s Secret came along and provided another way for fashion models to break into the mainstream. We also saw models like Gisele follow in the footsteps of Cindy Crawford, Christy Brinkley and Kathy Ireland in dominating pop culture. From catwalk videos at fashion shows to bikini spreads in magazines, their pop culture influence kept increasing.
Things changed a bit during the “MeToo” years. We’ve always been proponents here at Bullz-Eye of all types of beauty beyond the tall, slender, supermodel look, and we’ve let that ethos guide our photoshoots over the years. But we also felt the backlash against supermodels went way too far, to the point where many simply forgot the “beauty” aspect.
So we’re all for celebrating the supermodel look, along with all the other beautiful women out there.
