CD Reviews:  Sindust: Sucking the Inspiration

Rating:
This 3-piece heavy alternative band from Ashland, Ohio, featuring singer/songwriter Chris Donley, is one of the best unsigned bands I've heard in quite some time. Comparisons don't always do a band justice, but are necessary when trying to target an audience. So for those of you who probably have never heard of Sindust, there are touches of bands like Fuel, Nirvana, Third Eye Blind and Tantric. Donley has a great voice that sounds equally impressive singing and screaming.

"Daddy Long Legs" opens the record with driving guitars ala Fuel, while "Kissing" has a strong Nirvana influence. Tracks like "Nameless," "Sunset Fell" and my personal favorite "Magic" have engagingly melodic verses and powerful choruses. "Lazy" starts off slow before busting into a power-punk track, while "I Shadow" has a radio friendly Foo Fighters vibe. The last few tracks are all heavier guitar riff-laden rockers, and they all do just that.

If you like the bands I mentioned above, you will definitely want to give this one a crack. I hear albums like this and I wonder how bands like Creed are so big and guys like this are still working their way up. But that's the beauty of the music business sometimes -- finding a diamond in the rough and knowing it, and then seeing them reach their destiny.
