2021 Lexus LC Coupe

When it comes to luxury sport coupes, there’s some stiff competition. We thought we’d take a look at the 2021 Lexus LC Coupe and see how it measures up to the Audi R8 Coupe. Let’s take a look at style, performance, features, technology, and sticker shock.

Style Flatters

You’d think the European sports car would be the prettier — more handsome? — of the two. In fact, the 2021 Lexus LC Coupe has a classic style with plenty of modern twists. Every aspect of the Lexus seems to have been pinched, sculpted and angled. The multi-dimensional lighting on the front and back adds even more unity to the style.

Size Matters

These luxury cars aren’t about transportation for the many. They are definitely aimed at the driver and a well-chosen companion. The Audi R8 seats only two. It doesn’t even pretend to be a family car. The Lexus LC Coupe seats four. The backseat is small, but at least it’s there. You and your best friend might need the extra seats if bachelor’s night out takes a spontaneous turn into date night.

Sport Surprises

The Audi R8 uses a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic to handle its 562-horsepower engine. This V10 spits out 406 pound-feet of torque. If it’s tuned up to the tune of another $26,000, the coupe sails with 602 horsepower. Torque edges up to 413 pound-feet. The icing on this cake is an all-wheel drivetrain that’s ready for any road surface challenge.

The Lexus LC is a true competitor. Lightweight and agile, the car has a ten-speed automatic transmission and a 471-horsepower V8. If the two cars cost the same, this review might end here with a win for the Audi.

Sticker Shocks

The real divide comes when you hit sticker shock. A new Lexus LC Coupe costs over $90,000. A new Audi costs $170,000 or more. You could look at it as you are paying $70,000 more for about 90 more horses under the hood.

On the other hand, the Lexus LC is actually a much more modern car when it comes to safety. Both have excessive dash technologies, but only the Lexus has standard crash avoidance features. What’s more, you can’t get those features on the Audi. Your decision to get a loan or lease may be influenced by the fact that the Lexus LC has one of the highest reliability ratings that cars can have.

Saying “I’ve got a Lexus” may not have as much swagger as “I’ve got an Audi”, but the price difference and the generous Lexus standards should outweigh any thought of bragging rights. After all, when friends see the LC Coupe, all they are likely to say is “wow”.
