When I told my mother I was going to be interviewing Bobcat Goldthwait, her face dropped, and she all but snarled, “Oh, I hate him.” It would sound like a terrible thing to say if you didn’t know exactly what caused her to say that. Goldthwait himself refers to it as “the Grover voice,” and it’s that screechy delivery that made him such a memorable character during the ‘80s…for better or, in my mother’s case, worse. In the early ‘90s, he made his first foray as a feature-film writer and director, but while “Shakes the Clown” continues to be regarded…

It’s more than a little unfair that John Oates has spent so many years serving as the butt of jokes, but, c’mon, you know you chuckled at least a little when “The Simpsons” offered a scene where Lisa, feeling low after not making first chair in the school band, imagined herself as a member of Garfunkel, Messina, Oates, and Lisa. Fortunately, Mr. Oates has a sense of humor, one which he’s getting to show off in the new animated web series, “J Stache,” which reunites him with his long-lost mustache to fight the forces of evil. Yes, seriously. Bullz-Eye talked…
These days, Ken Marino can be seen serving up comedy as Ron Donald on Starz’s “Party Down,” and he also achieved a certain degree of cult fame for playing a gay demon on The CW’s late, great “Reaper,” but in the mid-1990s, he was – along with ten other really funny people – a cast member of MTV’s “The State.” It’s been a long, hard road getting the series to DVD, due to the horror of music licensing, but at long last, “The State: The Complete Series” is making its debut on July 14, and if truth be told, Marino’s…
Although the average American may know Lisa Lackey predominantly from her role as Janice Parkman on “Heroes,” the average Australian is more likely to recognize her from her time on a little series called “Home and Away.” In between the two, however, Lackey has racked up a considerable amount of credits, working with David Lynch (“Mulholland Drive”), doing a stint on the final season of “NYPD Blue,” and putting in a solid showing on PAX TV with the underrated series “Just Cause.” Bullz-Eye was fortunate enough to catch up with Lackey on the eve of her return to “Heroes” –…
Matthew Weiner must’ve really been sweating it on July 27, 2008. And yes, as you’ve probably already guessed, that’s the date that the first episode of “Mad Men: Season Two” premiered on AMC. The first season of the show had been rapturously received by the critics, singlehandedly turning the network formally known as American Movie Classics into the latest place on the basic cable dial to find top-notch original drama. Everyone was chomping at the bit to see what Weiner – who created the series – would come up with for the second season of ad men adventures, and the…
Saul Rubinek is one of the most versatile characters actors in Hollywood, able to move from sitcom to serious drama without a moment’s hesitation. As a result, he’s one of the busiest guys in the business, a fact which is easily proven by taking a gander at his IMDb listing. It’s been awhile, however, since he’s taken on a role as a series regular, which should give you an idea of how special he believes his new gig, Sci-Fi’s “Warehouse 13” (premiering July 7th), to be. Bullz-Eye spoke with Rubinek about how he came aboard the series and what we…
Although “Parker Lewis Can’t Lose” may have suffered its share of slings and arrows for having a title character who resembled a TV-ized version of Ferris Bueller, it was a show that stood out from the other sitcoms of its era. It skipped the studio audience, it was single-camera when single-camera sitcoms weren’t cool, and it unabashedly existed in a universe of its own, full of surreal circumstances and wacky sound effects. The show has finally made it to DVD, thanks to the fine folks at Shout Factory, and Corin Nemec – who played the titular character – is more…
“Reaper” is dead. Well, probably, anyway. As of this writing, the show’s fate is technically still in flux, and it certainly can’t hurt for fans to continue to show the series the same support they always have, but to read the comments by two of the show’s stars – Bret Harrison (Sam Oliver) and Tyler Labine (Bert “Sock” Wysocki) – about the future of “Reaper,” it’s fair to say that neither actor is overly optimistic about seeing a Season 3. That’s not to say, however, that they wouldn’t be up for the idea of returning to their characters if they…
If you grew up during the 1970s and spent any portion of your Saturday mornings in front of the TV, then you watched the work of Sid and Marty Krofft. You had to. It was virtually inescapable. While productions like “H.R. Pufnstuf” and “Lidsville” tend to be remembered because they appear to be the products of a drug-induced state of consciousness (even though Marty Krofft has said, “If I’d done as many drugs with my brother as they say we did, I’d be dead today!”), there’s one series which has earned a significant amount of respect amongst hardcore sci-fi fans:…
There’s something extremely surreal about doing an interview with someone you’ve known for almost a decade – albeit predominantly virtually – but who has only just now begun to receive acclaim for his career. Very cool, but definitely still surreal. I became acquainted with Dileep Rao when he, like my fellow Bullz-Eye editor David Medsker (a.k.a. the man I still can’t thank enough for bringing me onto this site in the first place), was a member of the E-mail list dedicated to the Scottish popsters known as the Trashcan Sinatras. Dileep and I have met a couple of times in…
