When last we chatted with David Cross, he was helping to promote a new online series (“Pilot Season”) and talking up the impending release of his first book, I Drink for a Reason. This time, he’s trying to get the word out about his new comedy special, “Bigger and Blackerer,” which makes its debut on the new EPIX network before emerging as a CD/DVD package in May 2010. During the course of our conversation, we talked about his hope that the kids who know him from his work in the “Chipmunks” movies will someday make his albums go platinum, took…

Chalk up another season of classic comedy for NBC’s “30 Rock,” a series which reportedly has more fans that work within the entertainment industry than it does average viewers. But really, is that such a bad thing? There may be accusations from some of your snarkier Hollywood columnists that the series has won its various awards only because TV people who live in a TV-dominated town can’t resist casting their votes for a sitcom which sends up TV, but for all of its inside jokes, “30 Rock” isn’t just about television. In fact, in the series’ third year, we’re provided…
Every season of “Mad Men” has an underlying theme, but even the myriad of events which occur during the course of Season Three – jobs come and go, businesses rise and fall, identities are revealed, marriages splinter, parents die, little girls grow up – can still be aptly summarized with one simple word: change. Season Three of “Mad Men” kicks off with our introduction to the new ruling class at the advertising agency, represented by Layne Price (Jared Harris), the crisp English gentleman who immediately sets off to cut costs within the firm. It’s hard to get a handle on…
HBO’s new World War II miniseries, “The Pacific,” premiered this month to what will likely be looked back on as the best reviews for any television program in 2010…and with good reason. Having explored the 10 episodes in their entirety, I can assure you that it’s top-notch through and through. As such, I took the opportunity to participate in a conference call with James Badge Dale and Joe Mazzello a few days before the premiere, then followed up with a brief one-on-one phoner with Jon Seda a few days later. Due to time constraints, neither conversation was quite as all…
When last we spoke with Aaron Paul, Season 2 of AMC’s “Breaking Bad” was just getting ready to kick off, which meant that all the actor was willing to do was tease about what we could expect to see in the upcoming episodes. Here we are a year later, and the scenario is suspiciously similar: Season 3 of the series kicks off on March 21st, and once again we find Mr. Paul keeping mostly mum. Still, in the midst of reflecting on the development of Jesse Pinkman during the course of the series’ second season, he did manage to give…
As you may already know, Bullz-Eye recently had the opportunity to visit the set of “Breaking Bad” as the cast and crew were on the verge of wrapping up the filming of the show’s third season. Now that Season 3 is finally premiering on March 21st, we’re rolling out more of our coverage from that trip. In addition to a great lunchtime chat with Vince Gilligan, we had a lovely dinner with Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul. We waited until after we’d all finished our meals before turning on the recorder, however, so here’s a bit of stage-setting: as we…
With a comedic legacy which includes stints on “Saturday Night Live,” “The Ben Stiller Show,” and, of course, the legendary HBO sketch series “Mr. Show,” it was somewhat surprising to see Bob Odenkirk turn up in the cast of AMC’s “Breaking Bad.” Fortunately, we needed only meet the character of Saul Goodman for a few moments before realizing that, despite the amount of intense drama on the series, Odenkirk was still going to be in a position to make with the funny. Bullz-Eye caught up with Odenkirk after the “Breaking Bad” panel at the Winter 2010 TCA Press Tour, and…
Bryan Cranston has often expressed his surprise that a sweet, unassuming, straight-and-narrow kind of guy like Vince Gilligan could come up with a show as dark as “Breaking Bad,” and having met the man, it’s easy for me to share Cranston’s sentiments…right up to the point when I remember that Gilligan’s from Virginia. Suddenly, it all makes sense. (If you hadn’t guessed, I’m from Virginia, too.) With “Breaking Bad” preparing to kick off its third season, Bullz-Eye took advantage of the opportunity to pick the brain of the man who created the series. Though he remained consistently closed-mouthed when it…
When the Winter 2010 TCA Press Tour took place in January, the cast of “Breaking Bad” was in attendance to pre-pimp the new season of the series. Unfortunately, the gang was so swamped with post-panel interview requests that a bunch of the writers ended up having to do a roundtable-style Q&A with them…which was cool in and of itself, except for the fact that I ended up scoring a spot on the farthest reaches of the group, thereby making it rather difficult to comfortably jump into the proceedings without feeling like I was shouting. Still, I was there, my recorder…
Anyone who’s seen “The Bourne Supremacy” and/or “The Bourne Ultimatum” knows that Matt Damon has a solid rapport with director Paul Greengrass when it comes to making action flicks, so it would seem to be a no-brainer that a further collaboration between the two parties would prove to be a safe bet for a kick-ass good time. Unfortunately, while Damon does get a chance to kick some ass, it’s highly unlikely that anyone without a strong interest in military-themed pictures will place “Green Zone” on the same level as any of the “Bourne” films. Set in 2003, Damon plays Roy…
