    Movie Review: “The Matrix Revolutions”

Movie Review: The Matrix RevolutionsI was disappointed with this film. I agree that the first installment was a classic, and I thoroughly enjoyed “Reloaded,” but this third installment of the trilogy just doesn’t live up to the promise of the first film.

My main gripe is that the story is so difficult to understand, and so much of it just doesn’t make any sense. In the original, the story was very clean and it even made sense if you accepted the basic premise of the film. In the second installment the storyline was much more confusing, but that was easy to tolerate in the context of a trilogy the second installment is supposed to leave you with unanswered questions.

Unfortunately, this final installment explains very little, and the few things that are explained are not very satisfying. I don’t want to ruin the ending by getting into the details here, but it’s pretty lame.

As you might expect, the special effects are excellent, but again they don’t live up to the first two films. The Wachowskis somehow fall into the trap of trying to do too much. The main battle scenes are not as bad as some of the George Lucas scenes from the new Stars Wars trilogy, but the overall effect is so overwhelming that you start to get the same cartoonish feel that you get from films that rely too heavily on computer graphics.

Movie Review: The Matrix RevolutionsNaturally, all fans of the Matrix should see this one, but I haven’t been this disappointed in a sequel since I saw “The Godfather III.”

    2.5 / 5 Stars
