two people on a podcast

We launched Bullz-Eye.com back in 2000, a time when the news world was much different than today. Newspapers and news magazines were still thriving and few had any idea about the carnage that lay ahead.

Back then, Web 1.0 websites were just starting to canabalize the newspaper and magazine business. As the decade progress, the problem became worse, and news websites and blogs started to compete with the largest news brands. Then the iPhone hit the market, apps and social media took over, and soon the news websites that relied on banner ads also started to suffer.

Today we have a much different landscape. Cable news networks are losing viewers as they focus more on infotainment and sensationalism as opposed to real news. Many consumers of news live in their own little bubbles as they watch programs or follow social media accounts that reinforce their biases.

Lately we’ve seen another depressing trend as once-great publications like The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times have compromised their editorial coverage to curry favor.

Despite all of these issues, we’re seeing some positive trends, particularly in the podcast space. Sure, that space is loaded with idiots who spread disinformation, but there are many excellent podcasts that offer deep dives into issues done in a responsible way. And we also have news podcasts that offer daily updates that can keep listeners informed while offering convenience and flexibility.

We’re collecting some of the best options for news podcasts in this post, and we plan on updating it from time to time. Please feel free to offer us feedback on any podcasts we should consider.

Daily News Podcasts

Up First from NPR
10 minutes each day that summarizes news events for listeners.

The Journal.
This daily from The Wall Street Journal focuses on business news from one of the most reliable news sources in that area.

FIVE MINUTE NEWS
Anthony Davis is a former BBC journalist who covers three stories from around the world in each episode.

Today, Explained
This daily from Vox has two hosts who deliver the news in a conversational format.

The Daily
This daily news show porbably has the biggest audience and it’s well done. That said, I hesitated in recommending this as The New York Times is a shell of what it used to be as a news organization. That said, this show serves its purpose.

AI News

The Artificial Intelligence Show
This weekly podcast from hosts Paul Roetzer and Mike Kaput is the best option we’ve found if you’re interested in staying current on the latest news regarding generative AI and the huge implications for our lives.

Tech and Business

Pivot
This podcast airs every Tuesday and Friday. The show is hosted by tech journalist Kara Swisher and NYU Professor Scott Galloway who have great chemistry together. You’ll also get plenty of opinion and humor as they discuss the latest news topics.

All-In with Chamath, Jason, Sacks & Friedberg
If you’re interested in developments in the tech world, you’ll learn something with every episode in this podcast. But fair warning, these three will unleash their politica opinions on a regular basis. For me, that ruined the podcast. But if you’re interested in tech and startups, it’s an excellent resource.
