Though not widely known, Cincinnati offers golfers a solid mix of quality golf courses. The typical Cincinnatian takes his golf seriously and it shows in the city's courses. The area offers a mix of private clubs - if given the opportunity take advantage of hitting one. The following public courses offer options based on location as well as attributes that conform to the needs you may have in a course. Country Club service and quality at a public course - ask concierge or call in advance for tee time. Located 25 minutes from downtown. 600 Nordyke Rd. Cincinnati; 513/474-3007.

California Golf Course
Good value, scenic. Tee times should be made, the sooner the better. Located 20 minutes from downtown. 5920 Kellogg Ave., Cincinnati; 513/231-6513.

Beachmont Reeves Golf Course
If you are on a budget or looking for a basic course, this city-operated course, adjacent to Lunken Airport, Beechmont Ave. and the Little Miami River, is a decent option. It also offers a Par 3 exec course if you are in a hurry. Call ahead to ensure dry conditions - the area is low-lying and the river does occasionally flood. Located 15 minutes from downtown.

Near Downtown

Devou Park Golf Course
Located in Covington, KY, close to downtown. Reasonably priced, Devou offers some nice views of Cincinnati skyline. Located seven to 10 minutes from downtown. 1344 Audubon Rd., Covington KY; 859/431-8030.


Lassing Point
Located in Union, KY. Nice, newer public course. Tee time via concierge advised. About 30 minutes from downtown. 2266 Double Eagle Drive Union, KY; 859/384-2266.

Kenton County Golf Courses
Located in the Kenton County, KY, golf complex. The premier course of the Kenton County courses is Fox Run, for the more serious golfer (tee time required). Other courses present a good value, but each course tends to fit a specific style of game. Roughly 25 minutes from town. 3908 Richardson Rd., Independence, KY; 859/371-3200.


Sharon Woods
Quality golf course, long, hilly and challenging. Get a golf cart, unless you are up for a good workout. Tee times should be made, the sooner the better. Located 25 minutes from town. 11355 Swing Rd., Cincinnati; 513/769-4325.

Blue Ash Golf Course
Simply a good quality, all-round golf course. About 20 minutes from town. 4040 Cooper Rd., Cincinnati; 513/745-8577.
