Like Michelle Ryan in “Bionic Woman,” NBC is hinging its sci-fi dramedy “Chuck” on the appeal of a beautiful foreign actress unknown to the American audience. Yvonne Strahovski plays Sarah Walker, a perfect counterpart to shaggy computer geek Chuck. Although from a Polish family, she was born in Sydney, Australia in 1976 and studied Performance at the University of Western Sydney’s Theatre Nepean before beginning her acting career in Australian television and film projects.
Her move to Los Angeles will most likely be permanent, as she has cited Australia’s struggling film industry as one reason for departure. The other is, of course, the lure of Hollywood, and Yvonne is eager to make her mark on the town. “Chuck” is her introduction, and what career benefits Yvonne will reap from the show remains to be seen. It is probably just the beginning.

Before “Chuck,” Yvonne could be seen in the Australian thriller “Gone,” as well as a few appearances on shows like “Headland” and “Double the Fist.”
It’ll be interesting to track Yvonne’s performance in “Chuck” and how the show does with critics and audiences. Either way, Yvonne’s in a prime position to finally catapult her career. She’s in the Australian comedy “The Plex,” and her first American film is the upcoming thriller “The Canyon,” in which she has the lead role. It’s set for release sometime in 2008.
