There have been tons of plays, movies and television series that have tried to tell the story of ancient Rome, but few come close to matching the HBO series “Rome” that debuted in 2005. Sadly, this big-budget triumph only lasted two seasons, with the creators being forced to accelerate the story in the final season.
Still, the show was simply brilliant. As with any historical drama covering events from the ancient world, much of the story is fictional with natural references to know historical events. “Rome” pulls this off brilliantly, creating a very realistic a believable “feel” of what it may have been like to live in those times. The show also captured and celebrated the debauchery of ancient Rome, which fit in perfectly with the type of entertainment that thrived on HBO.

Rome
Another in the long line of great HBO original series, “Rome” deserved more than a brief (albeit fascinating) two-season run. Check out our epside blog on Premium Hollywood.

Ray Stevenson interview
We loved the character of Titus Pullo, and when we interviewed Ray Stevenson about an upcoming film we naturally asked him about his experience on “Rome.”
