Olivia Wilde in “The Words”

Born Olivia Jane Cockburn in New York in 1984, Olivia Wilde always seemed to possess an air of regality about her. Indeed, destined to be a princess, she married Italian prince Tao Ruspoli in 2003 before settling down with him off the canals of Venice, California. Long before claiming the top spot on the Maxim Hot 100 list in 2009, Olivia studied acting in Ireland, a country in which she claims dual citizenship.

It was 2004 in which Olivia began making her mark in popular culture, first and most notably on television’s “The O.C.” and in the film, “The Girl Next Door.” Later, she would snag a lead role on “House,” and in the movies she took some interesting if offbeat roles in such films as “Alpha Dog,” “Conversations with Other Women,” “Bobby Z,” and the box office dud, “Year One.”

It seems Olivia is wrestling with the differing career paths of actress or ambiguous cultural celebrity. Her charisma and class that suited her in one way on “The O.C.” and red carpet affairs also has its advantages in public service announcements and campaigning for political figures like President Barack Obama. But whether she fully wants to commit herself to a disciplined career as a serious artist and thespian remains to be seen, and it may or may not be answered in 2010’s “Tron Legacy.”

Olivia Says

On folks’ perception:
“I’m a natural blonde, but I feel like a brunette. I feel like people treat me now how I should be treated. People used to be shocked, when I was blond, that I wasn’t stupid. I used to get these comments that I swear people thought were compliments. Like, ‘Oh! You’re smart!’ – like they couldn’t believe it.”
