The first ever Mobile Games Awards, in association with Game Insight, have revealed the hottest games of 2018. In a bid to acknowledge the meteoric rise of mobile gaming technology – from Virtual Reality (VR), to Augmented Reality (AR) and cloud gaming – the inaugural Mobile Games Awards recognises a year of innovation and creativity in mobile gaming.
Key industry personnel filled the sold-out ceremony, many of whom were beneficiaries of awards either though their mobile gaming startups or directly – like CEO of Vainglory, co-founder of Initial Capital and board member of Supercell Kristian Segerstrale. Segerstrale took home the Mobile Legend Accolade for his services to the mobile gaming industry. Mobile game development company Supercell, of which Segerstrale is central, was the biggest winner on the night, taking home awards for Best Developer and Best Marketing Campaign for their Clash of Clans Builder Campaign.
Mobile Game Awards 2018 finalists: Game of the Year
Unfortunately, not all of the innovative mobile games nominated for Game of the Year could take home an award. Nominees for Game of the Year at the 2018 Mobile Game Awards like Rovio Entertainment’s Battle Bay, which sees players destroy their enemies in full multiplayer action, DeNA and Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp where gamers adopt the role of campsite managers in charge of constructing the ultimate campsite which hosts all of their animal friends, and Ironhide Games, Iron Marines and Ustwo’s Monument Valley 2 in which gamers must guide a mother and her child through the most magical of architectural mazes discovering illusionary paths and puzzles en route. All are deserving nominees and would make worthy winners, but there can only be one.
The Game of the Year award winner at the 2018 Mobile Game Awards was Golf Clash. Recognised as the best mobile game for creativity, innovation and success released over the last year, Golf Clash offers players the chance to play on pixel-perfect golf courses against gamers from around the globe. Real world tournaments and challenges against your friends mean you can upgrade to the best clubs and golfing tours on your quest to become Golf Clash king.
