Upscale Hotels

These hotels located primarily in the downtown/midtown area of Atlanta provide the best service you can find at fairly competitive prices. Some of the hotels like the Ritz-Carlton and the Hilton will always come out on top for a few extra bucks.

Hyatt Regency
The Hyatt Regency consists of 1,264 guestrooms and suites located in a combined three buildings. The Hyatt has an extensively fine dining experience, including a cafe bistro and great Italian cuisine. Cool off with a quiet swim in the pool, pump up at the huge fitness facility, or shoot a round of golf on one of Atlanta's best. Address: 265 Peachtree St., Atlanta, GA 30303. Call 404-577-1234 for more information.

JW Marriott Hotel
Unique to this hotel is the fact that you can enter the Oz-like 1.5 million square-foot Lenox Square Shopping Mall without ever putting a toe outside. A long enclosed walkway, also used as an art gallery featuring work of local and regional artists, connects the two. Behind the dark glass and marble hotel facade, the dancing fountain and the twinkling lights lies the relaxed but elegant lobby. You'll relax from whatever stressful business brought you here, whether it's power meetings or the serious business of shopping. Your guestroom will prove to be quite the oasis, with muted earthtones, over-sized marble baths with separate showers and thick terrycloth bathrobes. The walls are adorned with gilt-framed paintings of Buckhead mansions for a nice, if forgivably showy, local touch. Address: 3300 Lenox Rd., Atlanta, GA 30326. Call 404-262-3344 or go to for more information.

The Georgian Terrace
There are 319 roomy suites in this historic hotel, each with fully operational windows, oversized closets, a full kitchen (including a range, a microwave, a dish washer and a full refrigerator, stocked as a mini bar), and a full-size washer and dryer. Other nice touches include modem lines and in-room movies. You'll want to move in and stay forever. Guests on the ninth floor Executive Club level have access to expanded business services and a conference room with up-to-date AV equipment. The huge, glass-enclosed fitness center occupies the top floor of the new building. The main attraction, though, is the rooftop sundeck, complete with a junior Olympic-sized swimming pool. Here you are 19 stories above the street with breathtaking views in all directions, limitless sky above, and the fast-paced street below. This is a favorite spot to have a party on a glistening night with candles afloat in the pool. Address: 659 Peachtree St., Atlanta, GA 30308. Call 800-651-2316 for more information.

Wyndham Atlanta
If you're still looking for an upscale, classy hotel and the Ritz and Hilton are booked, this is your next best bet. Equipped with 321 rooms and 20 suites, every room at the Wyndham shares the same breathtaking view from the room balconies. The hotel also has similar amenities such as a pool, exercise facility and a restaurant/bar on site. Address: 160 Spring St., Atlanta, GA 30303. Call 404-688-8600 or go to for more information.

The Ritz-Carlton
At the Ritz, you'll have the best of everythingservice, dining, luxury. The beautifully appointed guestrooms have all the latest touches, including two phone lines, data ports, Nintendo, video on demand and soft terry robes. With the exception of the suites and clubrooms, the guestrooms are smaller than some you'll find in other luxury hotels, but not by much. A favorite Atlanta custom, for locals as well as hotel guests, is Afternoon Tea. Classical music from a piano soloist provides the background soundtrack for what is always an affair to remember. At all times of the day there is music in the Lobby Lounge, but the energy is highest there late into the night, as guests enjoy jazz, dancing and perhaps a signature martini, The Blue Goblet. Address: 3434 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, GA 30326. Call 800-241-3333 or go to for more information.

Summerfield Suites
If you're visiting Atlanta just for pleasure, but you want a nice, luxurious place to stay, this is your best bet. Located in the upbeat Buckhead area, the Summerfield Suites is what it says, housing 88 suites along with the common extras like an indoor pool, fitness center and a restaurant on site. Perfect location for the party-goer, but if it's too expensive, try the DoubleTree. Address: 505 Pharr Rd., Atlanta, GA 30305. Call 404-262-7880 for more information.

The Four Seasons Atlanta
This is the hotel of hotels in Atlanta. Although the Ritz is also a great place to stay for you high-rolling businessmen, Four Seasons is even better. With 206 rooms and 18 suites, the Four Seasons may not seem big, but it makes up in size with service. The staff is multi-lingual, serving for smooth transitions with overseas businessmen and each room has a mini bar and their own safe, so you can lock away your personal belongings. Other extras include a lavish indoor pool, a game room/arcade, wonderful views of Downtown from the balconies, and a great on-site restaurant -- Park 75. The full service spa offers unlimited pampering and you can also request in-room massages. Now, if this doesn't sound like Heaven, I don't know what does. Second-Tier Hotels

Either you've set a budget or you forgot to book a reservation at the upscale hotel down the street. Whatever may be the case, we've selected a handful of moderately priced hotels if you're looking for a good stay at even better prices.

DoubleTree Hotel
Located in the heart of Buckhead, Atlanta's most prestigious and affluent district with shopping, dining and entertainment venues, the DoubleTree is just minutes away from the Galleria Mall. One of the nicer second-tier hotels, the DoubleTree occupies 230 rooms. Amenities include an indoor pool, fitness center and a restaurant/bar on site, although you can find better food just across the street. If you're looking to go clubbing in Atlanta and need a place to crash, this is it! Address: 3340 Peachtree Rd., Atlanta, GA 30326. Call 404-231-1234 for more information.

Embassy Suites
Set back from the mainstream, Embassy Suites provides one of the more serene spots to settle down in the Galleria area. Still, you can easily stroll to the Galleria Mall, the Cobb Convention Center and to Cumberland Mall. The nine-story atrium lobby features a striking pyramid-shaped restaurant where you can enjoy a cooked-to-order complimentary breakfast every day. Complimentary cocktails are offered daily to help your transition into your evening plans. Guest suites offer huge living areas with meeting space perfect for a casual business meeting. Call 770-984-9300 or go to for more info.

Sheraton Atlanta Hotel
Located in the Downtown area, the Sheraton provides only enough to be a second-tier hotel. Although quite pricey, the Sheraton is a lousy hotel in comparison to the Ritz, Wyndham or the Hilton. With 693 rooms and 72 suites, this hotel appears colossal, but it's far from it. It has a nice pool and a decent fitness center, but after your stay you won't be so amazed. Address: 165 Courtland St., Atlanta, GA 30303. Call 404-659-6500 for more information.

Radisson Inn Executive Park
This boutique-style hotel features a marbled lobby and an extravagant botanical fountain. With 208 rooms, the Radisson is a second-tier hotel trying to look like an upscale one.
