Atlanta offers great golf courses at great prices.
Brown's Mill Golf Course
This course features a par 72 layout with a nice variety of holes. It has Bermuda greens and fairways, both of which are kept in great shape. During the weekdays, getting a tee time is hardly ever a problem, but it probably wouldn't hurt to call ahead. Green fees: $28 for 18 holes on weekdays/$30 on weekends. Address: 480 Cleveland Ave., Atlanta, GA 30354. Call 404-366-3573 for more information.
Legacy Golf Links
The course itself presents a challenging and entertaining venue for almost all levels of golfers, as well as featuring the best by-far driving ranges in the area. You will truly enjoy your time at this course, but call ahead for tee times, particularly on weekends. Play is typically steady, though weekend rounds can be quite slow. Keep in mind, this course attracts all types of golfers...scratch players working on their games to absolute beginners. Green fees: $29 for 18 holes on weekdays/$34 on weekends. Address: 1825 Windy Hill Rd., Smyrna, GA 30080. Call 770-434-6331 for more information.
Candler Park Golf Course
Since Candler Park is an inexpensive executive length course near Georgia Tech, it draws an eclectic mix of mostly beginners. Its short length belies how difficult it is to shoot a good score. There are four simple holes on the course, while the rest of them are quite challenging. Green fees: $9 for nine holes everyday. Address: 585 Candler Park Dr., Atlanta, GA 30307. Call 404-371-1260 for more information.
Lakeside Golf Club
Located no more than five minutes from the airport, this course has gained fame in the area for hosting several outings involving the adult clubs inside the city. Not the greatest course to play unless you need to hop a plane right after. Green fees: $30 for 18 holes on weekdays/$40 on weekends. Address: 3600 Old Fairburn Rd., Atlanta, GA 30331. Call 404-344-3629 for more information.
Olde Atlanta Golf Club
This course is carved out of the rolling hills of Southeast Forsyth County and is more open than most courses. You can expect some uphill, downhill and the side hill lies on most shots. Some moguls are present to add to the fun. Address: 5750 Old Atlanta Parkway, Suwanee, GA 30024. Call 770-497-0097 for more information.
Bobby Jones Golf Course
This Atlanta favorite has no driving range, so stretch out wherever you can. There is a putting green, but it's sloped kind of funny and not a real good indicator of how the course will play. Besides that, the course will leave you satisfied with your game, but don't get too cocky. Green fees: $23.50 for 18 holes on weekdays/$26.50 on weekends. Address: 384 Woodward Way, Atlanta, GA 30305. Call 404-355-1009 for more information.
Sugar Creek Golf Club
Sugar Creek is an old style course: short and tight with small greens. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the course is usually in good condition. Calling for a tee time on the weekends isn't a bad idea. Green fees: $32 for 18 holes on weekdays/$38 on weekends. Address: 2706 Bouldercrest Rd., Atlanta, GA 30316. Call 404-241-7671 for more information.
The Georgian Resort
Ten minutes west of Atlanta and with five sets of tees, this course is as versatile as it is beautiful, easily varying between a relaxing and fun round for the easygoing golfer to a true test of ability for the low handicapper. The grandness of this course is overwhelming. Green fees: $65 for 18 holes on weekdays/ $75 on weekends. Address: 1900 Georgian Parkway, Villa Rica, GA 30180. Call 770-459-4400 for more information.
Druid Hills Golf Club
Although this club is open to members only, once you play on it, you will understand why. Two creeks meet in the center of the course, coming into play on most of the holes. The restaurant is elegant and the help is super nice. Green fees: Prices range from $26-50 for 18 holes. Address: 740 Clifton Rd., Atlanta, GA 30307. Call 404-377-1768 for more information.
