For English actress Gemma Arterton, A and B equals C relatively easily. While most actresses her age (she was born in 1986) are struggling to find acting work and paying bills, Gemma transitioned right into major feature work the same year of her graduation from the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in 2007. Depending on the responses to the films she is appearing in at this stage of her career, Gemma could become as much a figure as Keira Knightley.

Even before graduation, Gemma was attracted to high profile work, first on television in the BBC drama “Capturing Mary,” and then on stage in “Love Labour’s Lost” at the Globe Theatre in London. Gemma’s film debut was “St. Trinian’s” in which Gemma beat out Sienna Miller among others for the role of Kelly. 2008 has promised to be Gemma’s true breakout year: parts in Guy Ritchie’s long awaited “RocknRolla” and as James Bond’s love interest in the 22nd 007 thriller, “Quantum of Solace” (with Gemma bearing a striking resemblance to Diana Rigg in the 1969 Bond “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”).

With major fame inching closer, Gemma seems poised to handle the public scrutiny well. If the transition to well known celebrity actress is handled as well as her transition from acting student to Bond Girl, Gemma should have no problem. Things seem to happen as painlessly for her as possible. Maybe it’s just how Gemma Arterton rolls.

Gemma Says

On getting a shot:
“A few months ago, I was selling make-up. Now I should concentrate on being grateful that I can pay the rent for a while.”

On picking projects:
“If you do this big film, it will open the doors for all these other brilliant things. But you have to do the big film first.”
