Revisiting the Aria in Las Vegas

It’s been over a decade since we were invited to Las Vegas to check out the new Aria hotel and cover the Michael Jordan Celebrity Invitational that was being held at Shadow Creek. It was an amazing trip and we were certainly blown away by the Aria. It also helped that we had some very fun (and lovely) company on that trip!

So over the years I’ve always made it a point to stop by the Aria whenever feasible and I’ve stayed there many times. The Aria was anotable luxury addition to the Las Vegas Strip when it debuted, and even after the decade the elegant and sophisticated design has help up well. On this last visit I didn’t notice any chages in the crowd, which is still mostly upscale and a little more mature. You’ll usually see professionals, couples, well-heeled vacationers, and convention attendees in their 30s through 50s who are drawn to the Aria’s “grown-up” luxury feel. But even with a more professional-type crowd the casino still maintains a fun and edgy vibe. The feeling is pure Las Vegas and it reminds me of the vibe at the Wynn, and definitely more lively than the tamer Bellagio and the new Fontainebleau which has been described as “quiet luxury.”

For the most part, people at the Aria were dressed pretty well and were enjoying the food and cocktails at the various restaurants. I met a lovely lady at one of the bars and we enjoyed some delicious wine served by a very friendly and funny bartender.

The Aria is one of those hotel-casinos in Vegas where you can feel comfortable with most types of companions. If you want a wild weekend with friends, you can’t go wrong staying here. If you’re looking for a luxury experience with your wife, girlfriend or date, the two of you won’t be disappointed. And if you want some wilder fun, the vibe here will certainly get you in the mood.

It’s also perfect for a business trip if your company will let you stay at one of the more expensive hotels. We attended a business event recently at Catch (pictured below) and the seafood spread was simply spectacular!

Also, in recent news, the Aria scored big with Gymkhana, London’s two-Michelin-starred Indian restaurant that opened its first U.S. location her on December 3rd. It’s an opulent spot though we didn’t get the chance to try it.

The bottom line is that the Aria has stood up well and still ranks with the better luxury options in Las Vegas. Don’t hesitate to book this hotel or stop by the casino for drinks and food, assuming your budget allows for it!
