College football kicks off for real this weekend, and for many fans, that means diving into the latest news, predictions, and in-depth analysis well before the first whistle. While television coverage from big outlets like ESPN can be entertaining, it often leans heavily on mindless debates and personality-driven segments that prioritize drama over substance. Sure, some of the performance art can be fun, but many of us are looking for more intelligent analysis. For those who want more than quick soundbites and highlight reels, podcasts and YouTube channels have become essential tools for staying informed.
The best shows take the time to break down game film, discuss matchups in detail, and provide context that often translates into a more thoughtful, unfiltered discussion—one that values accuracy and insight over theatrics.
Whether you’re looking to sharpen your understanding of X’s and O’s, dive into the analytics, keep up with recruiting buzz, or just hear smart, engaging conversation about the sport you love, these podcasts and YouTube channels offer an alternative that’s both informative and enjoyable. Here’s a look at some of the best options to follow this season.
Andy & Ari On3
This has been my main college football podcast leading up to this season. It’s a daily college football podcast hosted by veteran reporter Andy Staples and analyst Ari Wasserman, produced by On3 Media. Designed for serious fans who want substance over spectacle, the show delivers new episodes Monday through Friday, typically running about an hour, with video versions often streamed live on YouTube.
The guys have good chemistry, and apart from some random tangents from time to time they stick to college football topics that most fans will care about. Both aren’t shy about giving their opinions, but they’re not trying to generate hot takes to get a reaction. The opinions are authentic and are grounded in rational arguments.
College Football Enquirer
This was my favorite college football podcast with the great Dan Wetzel hosting the show along with Pat Forde and Ross Dellenger. These veteran reporters knew their stuff, and they had a great time together on this show. There were plenty of laughs to go along with the in-depth analysis. But last spring Wetzel left Yahoo for ESPN, which put the show on hiatus. Then Forde signed a new deal with SI that included an exclusive, which meant the show needed to be retooled.
The show is back with Andy Staples and Steven Godfrey joining Ross Dellenger to form the new trio. It may not live up to the old standards, but so far the show is solid. You can catch it on YouTube as well.
Cover 3 College Football
This show from CBS Sports is hosted by Chip Patterson, Tom Fornelli, Danny Kanell, and Bud Elliott, and provides in-depth weekly previews, rankings, and against the spread analysis from insider voices. Watch on YouTube as well.
See Ball Get Ball with David Pollack
This ESPN veteran has come out with a solid podcast and YouTube channel. Pollack was one of the guys on ESPN who valued real analysis over performance art, so he consistently offers up helpful insight into the college football scene. Pollack was an incredible talent as a defensive end at Georgia and was a first rounder in the NFL before injuries derailed his career. But frankly he’s just as talented as a talking head, and he doesn’t have to deal with some of the ESPN knuckleheads.
The Solid Verbal
This is one of the longest-running podcasts in college football, hosted by Ty Hildenbrandt and Dan Rubenstein since 2008. Known for its spirited debates, unique segments, and engaging chemistry, it’s a refreshing alternative outside major networks. These guys know their stuff, and they pump out a ton of content with daily shows and they’ll do previews of all the major teams, so there’s content for everyone. The show is now on iHeart, so the downside here is that the show is flooded with ads.
Josh Pate’s College Football Show
Pate does a nice job covering college football and he carries the show as the sole host, so you get a different vice than many of the other shows. He takes pride in getting into the weeds and that he has an independent show. With a focus on recruiting intel, insider whispers, and game breakdowns—plus a nod toward betting and recruiting trends—this show delivers focused, behind-the-scenes content. It’s updated often and you can follow it on YouTube.
