In the introduction to last year’s gift guide, we talked about the effect the economic implosion would likely have on how people shopped during the holiday season, who they shopped for and, of course, how much they spent. Knowing more and more people would be looking for bargains, we introduced the budget section of our annual gift guide and closed by saying, “here’s hoping we’re talking about our recovering economy next year.” Well, things have certainly improved over the past 12 months, but to what degree (and at what cost) is a matter of opinion. Uncertainty remains, and with it the need for many to again spend wisely this holiday season.
Ah, but spending wisely doesn’t mean cutting corners and disappointing the people on your list. As usual, our Holiday Gift Guide is crammed with dozens of DVD gifts that will put a smile on the face of any movie or TV buff. And who doesn’t love a fun toy? Find camcorders, iPhone accessories and more great gadget gift ideas, along with music gifts and the hottest video game gifts of the season. What about Dad or your brother? Bill Simmons’ new book and some good ol’ fashioned bottles of booze highlight our list of gifts for guys.
Of course, we realize that our gift guide has a heavy male slant (we are, after all, a bunch of dudes), which is why Shelly Perry returns with a collection of great gifts for her, including unique suggestions for wives, girlfriends and, most importantly, moms. Shelly’s budget gift ideas pick up where last year’s guide left off, and for those eco-conscious people on your list, check out Shelly’s list of green gifts. And just for fun, don’t miss her luxury gifts section.
