Bullz-Eye's Fall TV Preview
“When will I learn? The answers to life's problems aren't at the bottom of a bottle. They're on TV!
~ Homer Simpson
Homer’s always been a little optimistic about the tremendous curative powers of television, but it’s safe to say that 2006 brings us one of the strongest fall seasons in recent memory. Perhaps prodded by the plethora of fantastic shows appearing on FX (“Rescue Me,” “Nip/Tuck”), Showtime (“Brotherhood,” “Weeds”), and HBO (just about every original series they have is great, judging by our most recent TV Power Rankings, anyway), ABC, CBS, Fox and NBC have finally stepped up to the plate and presented a full slate of quality drama and comedy. There are exceptions to the rule, of course (and you’ll read about those in due time), but for the most part, it’s a year of real winners across the board.
There is, however, just one caveat which should be offered before we dive headlong into the fray of the fall season.
Each of the networks that kindly provided Bullz-Eye with screeners of the pilots for their new fall season wanted to make sure that you’re aware that all we’re offering is our impressions and opinions of what are essentially “rough drafts.” Most aren’t very rough at all – indeed, some may actually look identical when they make their official network premieres – but, nonetheless, it’s not unheard of for producers to suddenly retool their shows between the filming of the pilot and the series premiere. (Case and point: the episode of “30 Rock” we viewed will be somewhat different from the one that airs, which you’ll read about in that show’s write-up.) So the moral is, use our descriptions as an approximation of what will end up on the air, not as The Gospel According to Bullz-Eye.
And with that, let’s warm up the set and get to watching us some tee-vee!
