Category: Comedy

The story revolves around three friends in their early 30s who are dealing with the issue that most guys face at one point in their lives is it time to grow up or do you still want to act like a kid in college? The three characters are very different. Luke Wilson plays Mitch, a real estate lawyer who discovers at the beginning of the film that his girlfriend has been engaged in some serious extra-curricular activities. Will Ferrell plays Frank, a nice guy who is getting married at the beginning of the film. He thinks he's ready to get married, but he's one beer away from his crazy "Frank the Tank" days in college. Vince Vaughn plays Beanie. He's married with kids, he's rich and he's definitely the ringleader.

After Mitch leaves his girlfriend, he rents an old house by their old college. Beanie of course convinces him to have a blow out party (Snoop Dog makes a cool guest appearance). Things naturally get out of control, and Beanie then convinces the guys to form their own fraternity.

The casting in the film was excellent. Will Farrell is hilarious as you might expect, and Vince Vaughn is just as funny as the obnoxious Beanie. Meanwhile Wilson plays the perfect straight man in the face of all the insanity. Each was perfect for their roles and the interaction between them made the gags work. The supporting cast was great as well. Seann William Scott (Stifler from "American Pie") in particular had a great cameo in a ridiculous mullet haircut.

The story gets a little goofy at times but that's the whole point. They're not looking for a Best Screenplay Oscar here. The story sets up the jokes and the gags, and practically all of them work. Writer/Director Todd Phillips did an excellent job and he was clearly inspired to be working with executive producer Ivan Reitman.

"Old School" is one of the best comedies I've seen in years. You won't be disappointed.
