The Cleveland nightlife scene keeps getting better as more and more people start to move downtown. For years, discussions about nightlife in Cleveland started with The Flats. That changed as The Flats fell on hard times, particularly on the East Bank, and the Warehouse District became the new hot spot in town.

Now The Flats is booming again with all the new development, and East 4th Street has joined the Warehouse District as popular downtown districts. Areas like Ohio City and Tremont are also booming with new development and new restaurants and bars.

Bars

Barley House
If you're ready to party and you're into a younger, rowdier crowd, then this spot should top your list. It's loaded with talent and is located in the heart of the Warehouse District, so you can bounce somehwere else if you want to switch things up.

Great Lakes Brewing Company
Cleveland's original microbrewery and brewpub. The food is actually pretty good, but go for the beer. Great place to meet, get drunk and eat sausage. It's located in the heart of Ohio City within walking distance of plenty of other brewpubs and bars on West 25th Street. Check out our review of Dortmunder Gold, the signature beer from this brewery.

Velvet Tango Room
This is the ultimate bar & lounge for anyone who loves cocktails and has the budget to enjoy the finest in town. It's an old establishment with tons of charm. Listen to live jazz piano while enjoying amazing cocktails.

Tree House
Located in the Tremont area, you'll usually find an eclectic crowd in this bar and in the other bars in this area. The surrounding area is getting safer but you always need to be careful.

Bar 32
The top floow bar located at the Hilton downtown is worth it just for the views alone, but they also have some great cocktails. Stop here if you want to impress a date.

Azure Rooftop Lounge
The rooftop bar at The Nine is another excellent option for amazing views and a trendy, hip vibe.

Shooter's on the Water
In the summer, this is one of the best spots in Cleveland. Located on the Cuyahoga River on the West Bank of the Flats, the outdoor deck is a hotspot for boaters and babes. The view of the river and the lake can be incredible. Don't bother going in the winter. The crowd is usually mixed.

Around the Corner
This bar is a West Side institution, known for its chicken wings. It's always packed on Thursday nights!

Panini's Downtown
This local chain has a number of locations in town. The large outdoor patio makes the location near Progressive Field an ideal spot to hang out before or after Tribe games.

Blue Pointe Grille
Stop by this upscale restaurant in the Warehouse District if you're looking for an upscale bar. The atmosphere is trendy and fairly loud. It's a great place to take a date. For similar bars in the Warehouse District, you can walk to Johnny's Downtown.

The Velvet Dog
This place has slipped since it opened in the late 90's. The lines aren't as long and now you'll find an older crowd mixed in with the younger crowd. The bar has dance floors on the first and second floors and has added an indoor and an outdoor bar on the roof where you'll find great views of Downtown Cleveland. The music mostly includes upbeat dance songs from the 70's and 80's. You'll always find a party atmosphere on the weekends and plenty of women in their 20s and 30s.

Live Music

Cleveland Rocks! Or so they say. The home of the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame had a vibrant live music scene way back in the 70's, but things just don't seem to be the same. It's sort of like Cleveland radio - it used to be great, but now it's just hanging on to an old image. The days of Kid Leo and WMMS influencing the national rock scene are over.

That said, every major music act will stop in Cleveland, either at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse, Blossom, the CSU Convocation Center or one of the many other venues in town.

The smaller venues are improving as well. Let's hope the addition of the House of Blues will help bring back a more vibrant music scene.

House of Blues
This beautiful venue helped started to revitalize both Euclid Avenue and East Fourth Street. This is a great place to see a show, and it's also a great place to hang out. The restaurant isn't the greatest, but the bars and music halls more than make up for it. Check it out!
