Zooey Deschanel is a one-of-a-kind gal. She’s everything Hollywood is not, and yet she still manages to light up the screen in every role, large or small. Born in 1980 in Los Angeles, California, Zooey is the product of showbiz parents Caleb (Oscar-nominated cinematographer) and Mary Jo (actress), and so it’s not surprising that the young actress declared her desire to become a movie star at the ripe age of two. After graduation from high school, Zooey enrolled at Northwestern University’s theater program, but dropped out during her first year to pursue an already active film career.
Along with guest spots on “Veronica’s Closet” and “Frasier,” as well as small roles in “Almost Famous” and “The Good Girl,” Zooey finally got her big break alongside Will Ferrell in “Elf.” Since then, the up-and-coming actress has continued to pick and choose her projects carefully, and - with the exception of her part in the screen adaptation of Douglas Adams’ “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy” and her role as Sarah Jessica Parker’s gal pal in 2006’s “Failure to Launch” - has appeared in strictly independent features. Don’t expect Zooey to stray from the limelight for long, however, because she’s set to make a big splash in the years to come.

Zooey Says

"I love old music, old movies, screwball comedies, vintage clothes, and basically I'm an old-fashioned gal."
On her personal life:
"I don't really like to go out very much. I'm not scandalous. I'm not, like, in this to be famous. That's just so embarrassing to have that written about you."
On her wild personality:
"I'm blessed with a lot of energy and stamina. I can't stand sitting still. I went to a spa once with my mom and I was like, 'Get me out of here!'"
