As the luxury brand of Japanese automaker Toyota, Lexus has become one of the premier luxury brands in the world. Lexus didn't debut in the United States until 1989, but it has since spread to 70 different countries around the globe.
Lexus started when Eiji Toyoda asked his board members if it would be possible to manufacture a sedan that would be capable of competing in the market of the day. Codenamed the F1, the flagship Lexus sedan was born, and the brand continued to grow from there. Over the next two decades, Lexus would add sedan, coupe, convertible, and SUV models to the lineup. Since the turn of the millenium, Lexus has introduced hybrid models, as well as a performance line for the popular IS series.
