Heist movies are a dime a dozen in Hollywood, but the most successful are those where a strong ensemble is teamed with a director who knows how to deliver the action in a fast-paced, visually-appealing manner. You’ll notice, of course, that I didn’t mention the script…but, really, if the cast has chemistry and the film looks good and moves fast, then the average moviegoer isn’t going to care about the script. “Takers” looks good. “Takers” moves fast. Shame about the ensemble. “Takers” is a classic tale of cops versus robbers, but it’s not exactly a fair fight for filmgoers: the…

Spike Lee is a filmmaker with a formidable resume: “Do the Right Thing,” “She’s Gotta Have It,” “Malcolm X,” “Inside Man,” “The 25th Hour,” and the list goes on. When Bullz-Eye had the opportunity to sit down with Lee, however, the topic was a very specific one: his latest documentary, “If God Is Willing and Da Creek Don’t Rise,” the first part of which premieres on HBO on August 23nd. (Part 2 airs the following evening.) Lee first took us on a cinematic trip to New Orleans with “When the Levees Broke,” which detailed the ravages of Hurricane Katrina on…

Everyone knows by now that the USA Network is a place where characters are welcome, and in the case of their newest series, “Covert Affairs,” it’s clear that character actors are greeted with open arms as well. You’ll get dizzy trying to play the “They Used To Be On…” game with the cast, which features alumni of “24” and “Invasion” (Kari Matchett), “Harper’s Island” and “Ugly Betty” (Christopher Gorham), and even “The O.C.” (Peter Gallagher). But that’s not all! During the TCA tour, I had a chance to chat with a few other folks from the show’s ensemble: Sendhil Ramamurthy,…

Jordana Spiro easily fits the qualifications for the descriptor “cute as a button,” and when she’s playing P.J. on the all-too-underrated TBS sitcom, “My Boys,” where her character is a beer-drinking, poker-playing sportswriter…well, come on, don’t tell me that doesn’t make her sound sexy as all get-out. Bullz-Eye had a chance to chat with Spiro in conjunction with the return of “My Boys” for its fourth season, and we asked her about Jim Gaffigan’s departure, Rachel Harris’s arrival, and the chemistry she has with co-star Kellee Stewart, but we also slipped in a question about her work in “The Goods.”…

When we last left our old friend Dileep Rao, he was just coming off the success of his role as the beard-rific Rham Jas in Sam Raimi’s “Drag Me To Hell,” desperately dancing around telling me too much about his work as Dr. Max Patel in the then-still-upcoming “Avatar,” and unabashedly avoiding revealing what film he was about to begin. That film, as we now know, was Christopher Nolan’s “Inception.” Seriously, how many actors have that kind of run with their first three motion pictures? Clearly, Dileep Rao is awesome…and if you doubt this, then consider that, as the release…

Giancarlo Esposito made his mark in the theater before he’d even hit his twenties, earning an Obie and Theater World Award at the ripe old age of 17. From there, he took on Hollywood, starting with 1981’s “Taps,” finding a place within Spike Lee’s ensemble of actors for such films as “School Daze,” “Do the Right Thing,” and “Mo’ Better Blues,” and along the way also turning up such classics as “The Usual Suspects,” “Bob Roberts,” and…wait for it…”Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man.” Esposito also maintained a presence on television, appearing as a cast member of “Homicide: Life on…

Craig Robinson has spent much of the past several years being known predominantly for his work as warehouse supervisor Darryl Philbin on NBC’s “The Office.” Lately, however, he seems to be turning up in a new movie every time you turn around, all of which are pretty damned funny. No, really: his list of credits includes “Knocked Up,” “Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story,” “Fanboys,” “Pineapple Express,” “Zack and Miri Make A Porno,” and “The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard.” Most recently, Robinson turned up as one of the leads in the brilliantly titled “Hot Tub Time Machine,” now available…

Warren “The Ape” DeMontague has been a staple (and, by coincidence, quite possibly has been stapled) of television for more than a decade, having been part of series on both IFC and Fox. Now, however, he’s finally getting the chance to step out of Greg the Bunny’s shadow and into his very own MTV reality series, cleverly titled “Warren the Ape.” The show’s been in the works for some time, and the network has been working to promote it since as far back as January, at the Winter 2010 TCA Tour. Naturally, I was in attendance, and I earned some…

On HBO’s “Hung,” Jane Adams plays Tanya, an inactive poetry teacher with a penchant for baked goods who attempts to help Ray (Thomas Jane) and enable him to use that which God gave him to make a career both him and for herself…as his pimp. Bullz-Eye had the chance to chat with Adams in connection with “Hung” kicking off its second season, and we discussed Tanya’s relationships on the show, found out as much as we could about what we can expect from Tanya in Season 2 (she’s not big on spoilers, as you’ll soon see), and asked her about…

Billy West is a voice actor extraordinaire, having been a part of everything from Hanna Barbera to “The Howard Stern Show,” but in recent years, he’s become best known for his work on “Futurama,” where he’s responsible for the voices of Philip J. Fry, Professor Farnsworth, Dr. Zoidberg, Zapp Brannigan, and quite a few other random characters. Bullz-Eye had a chance to talk to West when “Futurama” first rose from the dead via a series of straight-to-DVD movies, and now that the show has received a new lease on life via a 26-episode commitment from Comedy Central (the series returns…
