Born in London in 1985, Carey was desperate to become an actress. It was watching her brother in a stage production of “The King & I” that ignited Carey’s passion for performance. While dealing with early rejections from both auditions and drama schools, Carey tried her hand at the far-fetched notion of reaching notice by writing to her acting heroes – Kenneth Branagh among them. Indeed, such caution to the wind would garner her notice; screenwriter Julian Fellowes was introduced to Carey and a connection was made.

She had a role in the 2005 version of “Pride & Prejudice” as well as a BBC adaption of the Dickens story “Bleak House.” She had a recurring role on the British series “The Amazing Mrs. Pritchard” in 2006, and 2007 could be called Carey’s breakout year: particularly in the stage version of “The Seagull,” which in 2008 crossed the Atlantic to Broadway.

2009 saw Carey cement her place in modern cinema: “An Education” won Carey an Oscar nod, as well as Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominations. That same year she also appeared in Michael Mann’s “Public Enemies,” “Brothers” by Jim Sheridan, and went into production for Oliver Stone on “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.” It was there Carey met current beau Shia LaBeouf. That film was released in 2010, the same year as “The Greatest” and “Never Let Me Go,” which premiered at the 2010 Toronto Film Festival.
