Planning an outdoor kitchen can be a lot of fun. While there are hard decisions to make, such as what types of materials or appliances, it isn’t all boring. There’s a lot that can be done to make a more unique and fun space that’ll be perfect for an evening with the family or entertaining guests. When planning a kitchen, consider the following to make a big difference in how it all looks.
Look Around Before Making a Decision
Take some time to look around and get some outdoor kitchen ideas. Plenty of outdoor kitchens have been created and posted online, so there are tons of ideas to choose from. This can be a lot of fun, as it offers the opportunity to see what others have done and mix and match the creative inspiration to create something new and unique.
Consider a Theme for the Kitchen
Think about using a theme for the kitchen to tie in everything. Common themes that can produce beautiful results include a seaside theme, natural, contemporary, or even a hidden kitchen. A hidden kitchen doesn’t look like a kitchen when it’s not in use but opens up to showcase a gorgeous and functional kitchen that can be used at any time.
Add Seating to Make it Perfect for Entertaining
Add plenty of seating to make it perfect for entertaining. Including a table and chairs is a must, but add on a sofa or loveseat, some cushions to sit on, and other seating options to make sure everyone has a space when eating with the family or entertaining. Fold-up seating and tables can be used, as well, when extra seats are needed.
Incorporate a Garden
Who wouldn’t want to cook homegrown veggies in an outdoor kitchen? Smaller veggies can be grown easily in containers on the patio, so consider adding a veggie garden to the outdoor kitchen design. Along with veggies, include herbs commonly used when cooking so they’re always fresh and available. Most are easy to grow in small containers in the kitchen, making them perfect for outdoor kitchens.
Expand the Indoors Outside
Consider expanding the inside of the home to the outside. With the right look, the transition from the family room to the outdoor kitchen can be seamless. When the weather’s perfect, prop the doors open so it’s easy to go in and out. Using complementary furniture adds to the look and helps make the space look larger since everything works together. Hosting a large event? Being able to combine the indoors and outdoors space ensures there is room for everyone to sit and enjoy the meal.
Add Unique Appliances
Consider some of the unique appliances that other kitchens may not have. This can include specialty appliances, wine coolers, a beverage station, and more. Love pizza? Consider adding a wood-fired pizza oven for some of the most delicious pizza whenever eating outside is desired.
Planning an outdoor kitchen can be a lot of fun since there are a lot of choices to pick from.
