arah Silverman is known for her racy and envelope-pushing humor, but that didn’t stop Comedy Central from renewing “The Sarah Silverman” program for its second season. This two-disc set contains the first six episodes of Season Two, as well as a disc with an hour of bonus features.

For neophytes, the show revolves around Sarah (who plays sort of a half-retarded version of herself) and her friends. Her real-life sister, Laura, plays her sister on the show, while Brian Posehn and Steve Agee play her gay neighbors, Brian and Steve. Jay Johnston plays a police officer (named -- you guessed it -- Jay), who is dating Laura. The five actors’ genuine affection for each other manifests itself as usually hilarious on-screen chemistry.

Over the course of the short season, Sarah joins a radical anti-abortion group, wears blackface (to prove that being Jewish is tougher than being black), takes God to her high school reunion and gets in trouble for licking her dog’s anus. Of course, there are (somewhat) reasonable explanations for each of these mishaps, but it’s better to sit back and enjoy the ride than to get bogged down in the gory details. Just a warning – even those viewers who would describe their sense of humor as dark and dirty will probably cringe at least once or twice over the course of the season. Sarah Silverman is not for the faint of heart.

There is more than an hour of bonus material, including a Q&A session that the cast members did at the 2007 Comic Con. There is a series of “Cookie Party” cartoons along with a number of behind-the-scenes vignettes. Aside from the Q&A session, the only must-see bonus feature is “On the Set with Steve” where Steve Agee pitches a hilariously bad idea for a future episode.
