Just like Bob Marley’s “best of” CD, this DVD is appropriately titled “Legend.”
Marley is surely one of the music legends of the last century, and any
discussion of reggae begins and ends with his music. This DVD includes
performances of most of his best songs.
The performances range from live performances to videos of released recordings.
Many of the live versions are from the Exodus tour in 1977. Some of the
standouts include “Jamming,” “No Woman No Cry” and “Get Up Stand Up.” Others are
live in-studio performances, like “Stir it Up,” which was recorded for a BBC
program, The Old Grey Whistle Test, in 1973.
The entire DVD is vintage Marley, reminding us of the loss of this amazing
talent. The interviews are priceless. Marley might have the thickest accent I’ve
ever heard. The special features include “Time Will Tell,” a 90-minute biography
celebrating Marley’s life and legacy which boasts more great Marley
performances.
My only complaint is with the navigation set-up for the DVD. It shouldn’t be
that difficult on a music DVD to find and play a particular song, but the song
selection page only works for the audio versions.
That said, this is a must-have for any Marley fan. It’s also a great
introduction for anyone who wants to learn about this legendary musician and
man.
