It’s hard to believe that “Star Wars” was once considered a gamble for 20th Century Fox, but the truth of the matter is that George Lucas’ space opera was so radically different from most Hollywood films at the time that a lot of studios were afraid to take a chance on it. In fact, before it even became a pop culture phenomenon following its theatrical release in 1977, “Star Wars” was flying so far below the radar that the film was being marketed at a then-modest comic book convention called Comic-Con to pique interest.
Of course, the rest is history, with the first movie leading to two sequels (“The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi”), three prequels (“The Phantom Menace,” “Attack of the Clones” and “Revenge of the Sith”), a silly Christmas special, an animated series, two Ewok spin-off films, countless spoofs and homages, and more toys and assorted memorabilia than you could count. (Although taking a look at Lucas’ bank account would certainly give you a good idea). In the time since the original trilogy was released, Lucas has earned his share of critics for not only selling out through all the merchandising, but also making numerous changes to the movies every chance he gets. No matter what side of the argument you fall on, however, there’s no denying that everyone loves the “Star Wars” films, which is why we’ve put together this handy fan hub collecting all our reviews, interviews and more.
