Rambo vs. Tommy DeVito

In the Arkham Asylum division of the Badass Bracket, we have an emotionally scarred Vietnam veteran facing off against an emotionally unhinged mob goon. Tommy may be small, but he’s also fearless, which is a good quality to have when face to face with a Special Forces soldier that has more than 150 confirmed kills to his name. Whatever the result, crazy will be well represented in the Sweet 16.

Tommy DeVito

John J. Rambo

Sylvester Stallone, "First Blood"
Behold, the mother of all Soldiers Who Never Stopped Fighting The War. If John Rambo, a Special Forces vet in the Vietnam War, wasn’t already having difficulty adjusting to civilian life, he sure as hell was when small-town sheriffs with Texas-sized egos went after him. He let the sheriff and his minions off easy, merely wounding them (it’s not Rambo’s fault that one bonehead fell out of the helicopter). When he goes back to Vietnam to look for POWs, however, barely a soul lives to tell the tale, with no less than 59 confirmed kills. As for his trip to Afghanistan in 1988, well, let’s just say that they’re still cleaning up the wreckage.

Definitive badass moment: When he rigs the trap in the woods that plunges a pair of arrow-tipped stakes into the legs of one of his pursuers.

Classic badass line: “I could have killed 'em all, I could kill you. In town you're the law, out here it's me. Don't push it. Don't push it or I'll give you a war you won't believe. Let it go. Let it go.”

Seed: #3
Occupation: Ex-Special Forces
Strengths: Extremely resourceful, could turn a piece of bark into a deadly weapon
Weaknesses: Mental instability could be used as a weapon against him

Tommy DeVito

Joe Pesci, "Goodfellas"
Despite growing up in the dog-eat-dog world of the criminal underground, Tommy DeVito has secured a reputation as a loose cannon, and surprisingly, lived to tell about it. Prior incidents seem to suggest that Tommy does not appreciate comparisons to clowns, being told to go fuck himself, and most importantly, references to his days as a shoeshine kid. The pint-sized Italian mobster has what you’d call a bit of an anger management problem – which means that while he may not kill you in front of his mother, he has absolutely no reservations about killing you with his mother’s butcher knife.

Definitive badass moment: After Spider tells Tommy to go fuck himself while in the company of his friends, Tommy unloads a clip into the scared teen's chest.

Classic badass line: “You mean, let me understand this 'cause, ya know maybe it's me, I'm a little fucked up maybe, but I'm funny how? I mean, funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh, I'm here to fuckin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?!”

Seed: #14
Occupation: Gangster
Strengths: Intimidation, the prospect of going apeshit at any moment
Weaknesses: His big mouth
