Like the city itself, the cuisine in Amsterdam is a melting pot of many different cultures and tastes. You can find just about any type of food you want, and generally at a pretty good price. One tradition is the “brown café” which is a place to eat, drink and be merry. One of the oldest and most famous is Café Chris (Bloemstraat, 42), but there are these types of cafes all over the city. Amsterdam is also known for its fondue, which the Dutch took from the Swiss.
