I've always had plenty of respect for Radiohead. Their mid-1990s single "Creep" was a great song, and their CD
The Bends is still one of my all-time favorites. Meanwhile, 2000's Kid A was a little inventive, very different but it still featured some interesting songs. Why am I prefacing this as my review to Radiohead's latest release? Because
Amnesiac is only worth one star based on past performance. It's that bad. In fact, the title is ironic because this album put me to sleep.
Because doing things differently and taking chances is supposed to be admirable, I'm sure there will be critics who deem this effort brilliant. But allow me to take a stand here and formulate my own opinion: this is pure crap. There is nothing melodic or memorable at all on this disc. "Punk/Pull Revolving Doors" reminds me of something that would be playing in the bar scene of "Star Wars." The only song with any promise is "Knives Out," which has some decent guitar work but, like the rest of the album, it loses me once the band leans too heavily toward dissidence.
Mostly a release that experiments a lot electronically, one might say that if you get high it might sound better. I didn't bother to try, but my guess is that
Amnesiac would suck anyway.
