The debut release from this rap/funk/core group is a solid collection of tunes, some of which venture into the pop/R&B vein. Anyone who has seen these guys on MTV can attest to the fact they have the look and sound of a band going nowhere but up.

The first three tracks ("Toxic," "Think Fast" and "Darkside") are hard and heavy rap/core along the lines of Limp Bizkit and Korn. "Black Cloud" has sort of a grunge feel to it, and "Butterfly," which is the current single, is a radio-friendly gem with a groove and lyrics that make it a sure bet for heavy rotation in the strip clubs: "Come my lady / Come, come my lady / You're my butterfly / Sugar baby / Come my lady / You're my pretty baby / I'll make your legs shake / You make me go crazy." "Face the Music" has that affectionately obnoxious Beastie Boys/Offspring feel and "Revolving Door" is similar to "Butterfly" with a bit of modern-day Rolling Stones-ish guitar flavor mixed in.

All in all, The Gift of Game is a strong CD that rap fans of all ages should appreciate. The only problem I have with it is that many of the songs sound the same, but that's not necessarily a bad thing if the music's good, and in this case it is. Check it out.
