The third round of the EFL Cup has brought a couple of great games and surprising results already. There were eight games played on Tuesday night, and we have said good bye to only one Premier League team. Surprisingly, Colchester United have eliminated the Spurs after a penalty shootout. All other EPL representatives were successful. Let’s take a look at some match reports and results provided by bettingtips4you.com.

Sheffield Wednesday v Everton 0-2 FT

The second most popular team from Liverpool are having a lot of trouble in their domestic matches this season. The Toffees were defeated by Sheffield United during the last weekend at home without scoring a goal, so the importance of this match in the EFL Cup was bigger than usual. Once again they have faced team from Sheffield but were successful this time. The Owls couldn’t stop Everton from advancing, and the final result was 0-2. Coach Marco Silva was surely relieved seeing his striker Calver-Lewin score twice in the early stages of the first half. Even though Sheff Wed are having solid results at home in the Championship this season, they have failed to organize and contest Everton. The Toffees will welcome Manchester City this weekend in the Premier League and this win is a good morale booster that is for sure.

Preston North End v Manchester City 0-3 FT

Even though the loss to Norwich City has totally caught Pep Guardiola and his squad at surprise, the Citizens have recovered with a record 8-0 win against Watford FC last Saturday. They were a massive favorite going into this EFL Cup clash for a good reason, priced at 1/6 for the win before the kick-off. Manchester City dominated from the start despite having lots of changes in the main roster. Guardiola decided to rest Sergio Aguero and Riyan Mahrez, but the other main stars started the match. Goals were scored by Raheem Sterling and Gabriel Jesus in the first half. Some experts were hoping to see a better performance from Preston here, a team which caused many upsets in the Championship so far. Team from Deepdale is currently occupying great 3rd place on the table, one point behind the leaders Leeds United. Don’t be surprised to see them playing the playoffs in June!

Arsenal v Nottingham Forest 5-0 FT

Arsenal FC are definitely offering more consistency in comparison to the previous few seasons. They are not doing bad in the Premier League, sitting in the fourth position six rounds in with 11 points, and they managed to transfer the good form over to the EFL Cup. The Gunners welcomed and easily eliminated Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night with the final result of 5-0! There was only one team on the pitch of Emirates, but it took some time to break opponent’s defense twice. The first goal was scored by Martinelli in the first half. The second was seen in the 71st minute when Holding reacted great on an assist of Nelson. The remaining three goals were scored by Willock, Nelson and Martinelli. Arsenal came into this match after a fantastic comeback and 3-2 victory against Aston Villa at this same stadium. The Gunners were down by one goal and one man, but still managed to score twice and lock the three points. Unai Emery should be satisfied with the current course his team has.

Luton Town v Leicester City 0-4 FT

Even though they have managed to cause a couple of upsets in the Championship, Luton Town just couldn’t cope with one Premier League side like Leicester City. The Foxes arrived at Kenilworth Road and justified the role of big favorites, beating the hosts 4-0. Brendan Rodgers is doing a great job in this new football campaign on all fronts. Leicester have won four out of the last five encounters across all competitions now. The deadlock against Luton Town was broken in the first half by Demarai Gray. The newcome Ayoze Perez finally made a flashy move and provided an assist. Justin scored the second just before the half-time whistle. Leicester continued with the domination in the second half as well, and victory was sealed with goals by Tielemans and Iheanacho. Luton Town can now fully focus on their Championship campaign and try to avoid relegation just one season after they earned the big promotion.

Leicester collected eleven points from six Premier League games, and they are currently occupying the 3rd place on the table. The next stop is home fixture against Newcastle United this Sunday!
