Time to hit the treadmill

In many parts of the country, the leaves are changing and the weather is getting colder. And for many of you, this is the time of year you start to get less exercise. The holidays are around the corner, and come January you’re staring at your gut wondering what happened.

So many of us become active when the weather gets nice and then try to start working out again in January as the new year kicks off. It’s a common cycle you should try hard to avoid. Now is the time to commit to a workout habit that you can sustain year round. When all the amateurs are huffing and puffing at the gym in early January, you’ll be in your regular routine. They’ll be wrecked by the holidays while you’ll be in top form.

Many of us like walking or running outside for regular workouts, so now it’s time to take that activity indoors and hit the treadmill regularly. One trick is to invest in a tablet and start watching great TV shows while you work out. If you’re in the middle of a great show like “The Wire” or “Breaking Bad,” you’ll be looking forward to your next workout as you’ll be looking forward to seeing the next episode. Make this a habit 3-4 days per week and you’ll avoid those winter blues and do wonders for your waistline and long-term health.
