The Alfa Romeo comeback in the United States is well on its way with the introduction of the Giulia midsize sedan. As you can see from the photos, this beautifully-designed sedan with the distinctive front end is one of the more exciting new car additions we’ve seen recently. The Giulia isn’t one to blend into the crowd, and with that wonderfully Italian style it can feel at home in any luxury or business setting. The Giulia was crafted by Alfa Romeo artisans at the Cassino plant in Frosinone, Italy and it shows.

The Giulia and Giulia Ti models feature an all-new, all-aluminum, 2.0-liter, direct-injection turbo engine with eight-speed automatic transmission. This delivers a standard 280 horsepower and 306 lb.-ft. of torque, reaching 0-60 mph in less than 5.1 seconds and hitting a top speed of 149 mph.

Alfa Romeo is also introducing the Giulia Quadrifoglio which will serve as the brand’s “halo model.” This beast is all about performance as it features best-in-class 505 horsepower V-6 twin-turbo engine, 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds and a record-setting 7:32 lap time around the legendary Nürburgring – the fastest time ever by a four-door production sedan. The top speed of 191 mph will make you want to schedule a track day, and hopefully a performance driving lesson to go with it!

The new Giulia gives Alfa Romeo a chance to compete in the very lucrative midsize sport sedan market as it takes aim at German competitors such as the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class and Audi A4, along with other formidable options such as the Lexus IS. It will be interesting to see how this beautiful car can compete in this area.

The MSRP of the Giulia will be in the range of $40,000 to $50,000. The base model starts at $38,000 and with an additional $2,000 you can upgrade to the Ti which gives you 18-inch alloy wheels as an upgrade over the 17-inch wheels on the standard Giulia. I can’t imagine getting any sedan with the smaller wheels . . .

Overall the Giulia is pretty affordable given the head-turning styling, so one would expect more consumer to give this can a test drive.

Meanwhile, the badass Quadrifoglio will get you over $70,000, so you’re looking at a different group of consumers. Still, we expect this premium model to garner significant attention we well.

Check it out!
